Recent studies have shown that acai fruit possesses naturally high concentrations of antioxidants, known as polyphenols, including anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, and other flavonoids. Anthocyanins are a group of phytochemical pigments that give deep colour to fruits and vegetables, including acai berries, and are naturally high in antioxidant value.
As well as being a rich source of antioxidants, acai berry is an exceptionally good source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids as well as nutrients such as Vitamins A, C and E. Acai also has been researched for its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Studies indicate that acai's antioxidant properties protect against oxidative stress, which impacts negatively many aspects of health, including the immune system, cardiovascular health, and ageing.
